DIRECTOR BACK
When I direct a play I am clear as to what I have to say through my play. And every next step is in accordance to that. Visualization of a scene, use of properties, content of the scene and character's emotional level, rhythm of the part played, energy level everything is in accordance to what I want to say. Secondly, I understand the basic motive behind writing the play and for that writer's psyche is also necessary to be understood. What was in the writer's mind and what has made him to write the particular scene? Create a particular character, emphasis on particular word, character's interpersonal relationship and his own self. It is very important to see the story from writer's eyes too.
In short I as a director :
1. read the play over and over again to have in- depth knowledge of the play
2. find out what is the message of the play and create the scenes accordingly
3. beside message work on how to create drama within the space provided
4. create a scene that will hold the audiences
5. use suggestive and indicative element
6. work on
-characterization
-performer
-audience
-what will be the effect of the play and how
-speed of the play
-music
-light
-properties
and according to me a director must have qualities of a teacher, knowledge of acting, music, art direction, costume, presentation skill and work constantly to refine these qualities.
